CBS wil l be bringing back anoth er one o f its veteran dramas f or the 2019-20 TV s eason. Ann ounced this afternoon , the network has officially renewed “NCIS” for its seventeenth seas on. The news comes after s tar and ex ecutive producer, M ark Harmon, signed a new deal with CBS to reprise h is role on the series. “N CIS has be en a global j ugger naut for almost two decade s,” said CBS Entertainmen t President, Kelly Kahl. “Its viewers are cl early the most loyal of any dra ma on television. They are pas sionate abo ut the characters, the plo tlines and the sto rytelling. We ow e a hu ge debt of gratitude to the gifted production team and the cast, led by the extraor dinary Ma rk Harmo n. We are delighted that t he show will rema in a linchpi n of the CBS sche dule this c oming season.” In its current season, “NCIS” has b een averaging 12.2 million viewers in the live same day ratings, making it TV’s sec ond-most-watched scripted series, behind only “Th e Big Bang T heory.” It has remain ed a strong perfor mer for CBS, i n bo th its ra tings and viewership numbers, and was wid ely conside red to be a strong renew al conten der leading up to the announcement t oday.
