Series Eig hteen starts airing on 29 January 2012 with seven episodes (not including t he India Special),[1] following on from t he 2011 Chr istmas special which aired on 28 December 2011.[2] In the special they t ake a rout e across India, the first of the many coun tries Top Gear plan s to visit over th e course of the new series, according t o Jeremy Clarkson. Shooting in India began on 2 October, with the first l eg of the shooting beginni ng in suburbs of Mumbai.[3][ 4] The show was also seen in Lecce, I taly with a Nob le M600, McLaren MP4-12C and a Lamborghini Aventad or.[5] Hammond announced during the Top G ear Live sho ws in Bir mingham, t hat add itional recor dings f or th e ne w serie s had bee n don e in th e USA. The Jan uary 2012 ed ition of Top Gear Magazine featured a preview of what t o expect i n series 18.[6] It included a piece where Richar d Hammond dr ives a NASCAR safe ty car for a real race, later going on to dri ve an actu al NASCAR ra ce car. The magaz ine al so featured a part of so me of the power tests to expect, inclu ding Je remy Clar kson driving a Mercedes -Benz C63 AMG B lack E dition, a Mercede s SLS A MG Ro adster and a Ma serati GranT uris mo MC Strada le. Hammond m eanwhil e will drive a 2012 BMW M5 F10, and May will h ave a Vauxhall Corsa Nürburgring Edition . Accor ding to Top Gear Execu tive Producer Andy Wilman, Clarkson, Hammond and May are going to nor thern Sweden as well, where they will race the new Ferr ari FF across a S ilverstone Circuit-shaped ice track.
