Series E ighteen starts airing on 29 Janu ary 20 12 with sev en episodes (not including the India Special),[1] following on from t he 2011 Christmas special whi ch aired on 28 Decemb er 2011.[2] In the spe cial they t ake a route acros s India , the fir st of the m any countrie s To p Gear plans to visit over the course of the new series, according to Je remy Clarkson. Shooting in India began on 2 Octobe r, with the first leg of the shooting beginning i n suburbs of Mumbai.[3][4] The show was also seen i n Lecce, Italy with a Noble M600, McLaren MP4-12C a nd a Lamborghini Aventador. [5] Hammond announced during the Top Gear Live shows in Bi rmingham, that additional recordings for the new series had been done in the USA. The J anuary 201 2 edition o f Top Ge ar Magazine featured a preview of what to expect in series 1 8.[6] It included a piece where Richar d Hammond drives a NASCAR s afety car for a real ra ce, late r going on to drive an ac tual NA SCAR r ace car. The magazine also featured a part of som e of the power tests to expect, including Jeremy C larkson d riving a Mercede s-Benz C63 AMG Black Edition, a Me rcedes S LS AMG Roadster an d a M aserat i Gra nTurismo MC Stradale. Hammond meanwhile wil l drive a 2012 BMW M5 F10, and May will hav e a Vauxhall Corsa Nü rburgri ng Editio n. Another feature is going to China to t est drive Chinese cars, Italy i n 3 super-ca rs, Lamborghini Aventador, No ble M600 and a McLaren M P4-12C . Also J ames Ma y is taking a trip to USA to test sports hybrid supercar Fisker Karma , meet A CDC f rontman Brian Johnson and drive his 1928 Bentley Vanden Plas LeMans T ourer. According to Top Gear Execu tive Produce r Andy Wilm an, Clarkson , Hammond and Ma y are going to no rthern Sweden as well, wh ere they will race the ne w Ferrari FF across a Si lverstone C ircuit-shape d ice track.
