Series Eighteen star ts airing on 29 Janu ary 2012 wi th seven episodes (not in cluding the India Special),[1] following on from t he 2011 Christmas special which aired on 28 December 2011.[2] In the special the y tak e a route acro ss India , the firs t of the many countries Top Gear pla ns to vis it over the course of the new s eries, according to Jeremy Clarkson. Shooting in I ndia began on 2 October, wi th the fir st leg of the shooting beg inning in suburbs of Mum bai.[3][4] The show was also seen in Le cce, Italy with a Noble M600, M cLaren MP4 -12C and a Lamborghin i Aventador.[5] Hammond announced during the Top Gear Live shows in Birm ingham, that additiona l recordings for th e new series h ad been done in t he USA. The January 2 012 edition of Top Gear Magazine featured a preview of wha t to expect in series 1 8.[6] It included a piece where Richard Hammon d drives a NASCAR s afety car for a real rac e, later going on to drive a n actua l NASCA R race ca r. The ma gazine also feat ured a part of some of the power tests to expe ct, including Jere my Clark son driving a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Blac k Edition, a Merc edes SLS AMG Ro adster and a Maserati GranT urismo MC S tradal e. Hammon d mean while will driv e a 2012 BMW M5 F10, and May will have a Vauxhall C orsa Nürburgring Edition. Anot her feature is going to China to t est drive Chinese ca rs, Italy in 3 super-cars, Lamb orghini Aventador, N oble M60 0 and a McLaren MP4-12C.
