Series Eighteen starts airing on 29 Janua ry 2012 wi th seven episodes (not including the India S pecial),[1] following on from the 2011 Christmas special wh ich aired o n 28 December 2011.[2] In the special they tak e a rout e across India, the firs t of the m any countrie s Top Gear plans to visit over the course of the new series, according to Jeremy Clarkson. Shooti ng in India began on 2 October, with the first le g of the shootin g beg inning in suburbs of Mumbai.[3][4] The show was also seen in L ecce, Italy with a Noble M600, McLa ren MP4-12C and a Lam borghin i Avent ador.[5] Ham mond announced during the Top Gear Live shows in Birming ham, tha t ad ditional recordings for the new series had been done in the USA. The January 2012 edit ion of Top Gear Magaz ine featured a preview of what to expect in series 18.[6] It includ ed a piece whe re Richard Hammond drive s a NASCAR saf ety car for a real r ace, l ater going on to drive an actual NA SCAR race ca r. The ma gazine also feature d a part of some o f the power te sts to expec t, includin g Jeremy Clarkson driving a Mercedes-B enz C63 AMG Bl ack Edit ion, a Mercedes SLS AMG Roads ter and a Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Hammond meanwhil e wi ll drive a 2012 BMW M5 F10, and May will have a Vauxhall Corsa Nürburgring Edition. Anoth er feature is going to China to test drive C hinese cars, Italy in 3 super-cars, Lamborghini Aventador, Noble M600 a nd a McLaren MP4-12C. Al so James Ma y is taking a trip to USA to t est sports hybrid supercar Fisker Karma, meet ACDC fr ontman Bria n John son and drive his 1928 Bent ley Vanden Pl as LeMans Tou rer. A ccording t o Top Gear E xecutive Producer Andy Wilman, Clarkson, Hammond and May a re going to nor thern Swe den as well, where they will race the new Ferrari FF across a Silverstone Circuit-shaped ice t rack.
