Former polic e dete ctive Adrian Monk ( Tony Shalhoub), whose ph otographic memory and amazing ability to piece to gether tiny clues made him a local legend, has suffered from intensified obsessive- compulsive disorder and a v ariety of phobias sin ce the unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, in 1997. Now on psychiatric leave from the San Francisco Police Department and working as a freelance detective con sultant on difficult c ases, Monk hopes to convince his former bo ss, Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), to allow him to re turn to the force. Stottl emey er, who wavered between admira tion for Mo nk and ann oyan ce at his eccen tricities during the f irst season, is becoming more o f a frien d to Monk as the series develops, frequently calling him in t o help, as much for Monk's benefit as for his own. However, he knows Monk's limitatio ns as well as his strengths and may still h arbor doubts abou t th e wisdom of allowing Monk to carry a gun or su bdue a perpetrator. Stott lemeyer's second-in-comm and, Lie utenant Randall Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), also seems to be devel oping both admiration and compassion f or the man he once la beled the defective detective.De spite flaws and inadequacies all around, the three are becoming an inc reasingly effecti ve team, with additio nal help from Monk's pers onal assist ant. From the d ouble-episode pilot through t he first half of se ason three, Monk was aide d by his nurse, Sharona Flemi ng (Bit ty Schra m). But in the tenth episode of the third season, Sharo na was re placed by a new assistant, Natalie Teeger (Traylo r Howa rd). Like Sharona, a divorcee with a son name d Benjy, Natalie is a sin gle parent, a widow with a daughter named Julie (Emmy Cla rke). Un like Sharona, N atalie is not a nurse but a for mer barte nder wi th a f resh perspective on M r. “事情是你要揭露的 ，那么这些都是因你 而起，我不会做这件事情 ，但是倘若别人做，我 是会奉陪 的。倘若真的 到了那，我相信 朝廷做事情是公平公证的，即 便是追责，也是依着律法来追责的，断然 不会强行 做什么，而之后我们会有什么样的判处，那只能是为自己的过错去承 担后果罢了，事情是自己做的，得到应有的惩罚，也没有什么不 对，否则要律法做什么呢？”
