A film adaptation of a play made by a high school d rama club, directed by Yamashita Nob uhiro of Linda Linda L inda (20 06). It’s esse ntially a co ming-of-a ge film about teenagers made b y teenager s. Duri ng summer v acation, at a high school, the PE teac her makes female students who skip ped his clas s clean the outdoor sw imming pool . The drained pool is full of sand blown in from a near by bas eball field, and the task of scoopi ng up t he sand and putting it in buckets seems mea ning less. Chizuru, who used to be unbeatabl e in the swim clu b in middle sch ool even against bo ys, pract ices imagin ary swimming in the sand-filled po ol, while Kokoro, who is seri ous about cultivating her feminine c harm b y diligently applying makeup, doesn’t ca re about cleaning. With their own stories, Miku, who diligentl y practices dance moves typically performed by men, and Y ui, who was the swi m club ca ptai n last year, and the other girls meet and conv erse on t he poo l flo or under the su mmer sun, whe re unexpected conflicts arise and resolve in unexpected ways .
