Fear of some unknown danger b reaks out in the villa ge, which is cut off from the surroundi ng w orld. Stupid ity, selfis hnes s and aggres siveness then c ome to the surfa ce in this soci ety under threat . In the film's key scene, a woman is r aped by the self-style d leader. Z denuk Mahler, who would later work on Forman's examination Mozart Amadeus, worked on the scri pt. The dire ctor Evald Schorm (1929-1988) was one o f the most orig inal membe rs o f the Czech New W ave. During the normalizati on era, Sc horm spent many years un able to direct. His last fi lm, Kill ing with Kin dness (1988) was only made in th e twilight years of Communism . During that period when he was unab le to di rect f ilms, he becam e an out standin g stage dir ector. He directed gr oundbreaking productions at the Na zábradlí Theater and Laterna Magika.
