Adult broth ers Mark and Colin Po llock st ill live with th eir par ents Fran k and Mavis Poll ock in a small apartm ent in the projects of London's east end in what is a collectiv e depressed and unhappy e xistence. The family rarely sociali zes with Mav is' sister and brother-in-law, Barba ra and John, w ho live a m iddle to upper middle cla ss and seemingly perf ect existence i n the subu rbs of Chigwell. Al though not telling them to their fa ce, J ohn dislikes his relations by ma rriage, believing es pecially Mark to be bra sh and trashy. A unilateral act by Barbar a leads to ma ny issues within the extended family coming t o the surface, most s pecifically the true happiness of the marriage between Barbara and John, and wh at Colin is truly looking for to be happy in life.
