It is a dr ama serie s that deals with th e pers onal costs and consequences of the struggle for power for the people at the centre of b oth the political w orld and the media. We meet a very different Birgitt e Nyborg ( Sidse Bab ett Knuds en) in the third season than t he p erson we last saw s peaking f rom the lecte rn in parlia ment. She is no longer prime minister. It is two and a h alf years since she called an election in which she failed to wi n the require d number of seats to maintain the existing government. Nyborg had to resign, and chose at th e same time to step down as party leader in order to mak e way for n ew, up-and -coming figures. She has thus left politi cs, and is n ow a highly-paid speaker in the business world. She also sit s on se veral majo r boards, whic h requ ires her to do a lot of travelling. Her old party, the Moderat es, ha s changed course s omewhat. The current p arty leader is Birgitte's former crown prince, Jacob Kruse (Jen s Jac ob Tychsen), who previously be trayed her , after whic h she promoted him to th e post of EU Commissioner to g et rid of him. He has contrib uted t o pulling the Moderates in a mor e conservative direct ion, s o that even on the imm igration is sue, the party is begin ning to approach t he politic s of the curr ent government, led by Lars Hes selboe.
